HALL OF FAME 2008

Donna Morris - Newcastle

Donna Morris

Newcastle

Donna Morris has been the head coach of the Newcastle slow-pitch softball program for ten years. Her teams have compiled a record of 226 wins and 138 losses. The Racer slow-pitch program has won the District Championship every year since the first year of competition and has been to the Class 5A State Tournament seven out of the last ten years where they finished as the State Runner-up twice. Also, the 2008 Racer squad won the Class 5A Academic State Championship, a first for Newcastle High School.

Coach Morris has been a member of the Oklahoma Slow-Pitch Coaches Association for the past ten years and has served as the Class 5A, District 1 Representative for four years. Morris was also named as the Large Schools, District 1 Coach of the Year on two occasions and served as the Association’s Vice President for two years. However, Morris’s proudest accomplishment occurred when she was voted the first female President of the Oklahoma Slow-Pitch Coaches Association, a position she held for two years. “It was a tremendous privilege to serve as the President of this association,” Morris said. “The people involved are great and the friendships made will last a lifetime.  I would also like to say that I appreciate the efforts of the many coaches and board members who fought to quell the efforts made two years ago to eliminate slow pitch softball.  It took all of us to save our organization. Of that I am extremely proud.”
