John Mattheyer, Jr., Davenport

John Mattheyer, Jr., “Jaybird”, was a volunteer assistance coach at Davenport High School under four different coaches from 1989 through 2005 while working a full time job. He did take off two years during that time to be an assistant coach at St. Gregory College in Shawnee. During his time served at Davenport, the girls were successful at winning fourteen State Championships combined, fast and slow-pitch. While at St. Gregory College the team won the NSCAA Championship. During the past year he retired from coaching and is able to enjoy spending more time with grand kids and family.
