In the fall of 1998 Robert Wakefield and his wife, Maudean moved to Moore High School from Plainview High School in Ardmore, OK where he had coached 21 years as head coach of baseball and fast-pitch softball. They have two sons, Shane (who is married to Heather) and Mickey.

At that time he accepted the Lady Lion head fast-pitch coaching position. Then, in 2000, he became the head slow-pitch coach and has accumulated a 10 year slow-pitch career record of 332-55, winning the regional championship all ten years. The Lady Lions were State Slow-Pitch Champions in 2005 and 2008 in addition to having two state runners-up. He was selected as the Class 5A-6A Coach of the year in 2007 and 2008. In 2004, Robert was the All-State coach and has coached 20 Slow-Pitch All-Staters throughout his career at Moore High School.

Additionally Coach Wakefield was elected to the inaugural class of the Oklahoma High School Fast-Pitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2002 and won the State Fast-Pitch Softball Championship in 2005 and 2007.

Robert has been a member of the Oklahoma Slow-Pitch Coaches Association for the past ten years and has served on their Board of Directors as the Class 6A, District 6A-2 Representative for eight of those years.

“It is a privilege to have been honored as a member of the Oklahoma Slow-Pitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame,” Wakefield said. “I would like to thank the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board of the Slow-Pitch Coaches Association. I have been blessed with tremendous athletes during my career which has made this all possible.”
